Tryout

Last week I bought a Sony a7II camera and kit lens. Since my brother works for Sony I got the good buddy price, 25% off of the camera and lens. A pretty good deal for a full frame, 23mp camera.

My Leica M9-P is back in the shop. Leica New Jersey has it. The sensor needs to be replaced. Sensor corrosion. This is a chronic problem with the M9, a design flaw in the sensor that causes the top layer of the sensor to begin delaminating. Now, Leica will replace the sensor without charge and they are looking for a more permanent solution to the problem, but that does not give you back the time without your camera while it is being repaired.

So this is where the a7 comes in. A full frame, body stabilized, high iso camera, that has adapters for Leica lenses! It turns out that the Sony is ridiculously easy to focus with a manual lens attached and the image quality is wonderful. Getting used to a mirror less camera with an electronic viewfinder took me about 5 minutes.

The M9-P will be up for sale as soon as it is back from the shop. Time to move on.
