I love portrait photography. Not the 3 light in a studio sort, but environmental portraiture. Out in the street, in the office, at the workplace, adventuring. Even fantasy scenes, re-created for my camera.
I’m not very practiced in this type of photography. I don’t have a bunch of model friends or even friends who will model for me. Becki is good about it. She makes a great model and will figure often in my new project.
Pictures of Me.
Since I am always available for me, can sit without complaining while the photographer works things out and do not demand much in the way of compensation, I am my model of choice.
This works out in a number of ways. I can take my time with setting up the scene (I even grew my beard for the first set of photos), I won’t have to worry about looking foolish or amateurish in front of anyone else and I can work at my own pace.
The first roll of film and a few digital snaps have been made and I am on my way. I used My Rolleiflex 3.5f and pushed a roll of Tri-X to 1600 for these shots in my bathroom at home.
The first picture is my first environmental portrait, taken by my mother in 1964.
