I dropped Becki off at LAX the other day so she could fly to Calgary for a movie scout. Since it was still early I just kept on going and ended up on Abbot Kinney in Venice. It’s been a few years since I’ve been in this part of town, something that always amazes me about living in LA, five miles away could just as well be fifty. I’m out of my neighborhood, visiting other areas in Los Angeles, two or three times a week and there are still places that I haven’t seen even though I was born here and have lived here my entire life (except for those two long, hot years in Texas).
I grabbed a coffee and old fashioned donut from Blue Star and walked around, looking in all of the funky shops and restaurants. Before I left I made a quick trip to Vnyl to see if there were any albums worth buying. I left empty handed and decided to head down the road to walk along the canals.
I won’t give a history lesson here, but I will say that the failed experiment of Abbot Kinney, the man, created one of the most beautiful and unique neighborhoods that I have ever seen. Here are a few of the images from that day.
I used my Leica MP, 50mm Summicron and Tri-X rated at 400. I developed in HC-110 1+49.
