Walking around Echo Park Lake on a cool, sunny day, you could forget that you happen to be only a couple of miles from the heart of downtown Los Angeles. The constant hum of the nearby 101 freeway and, from one end of the lake, the high rise buildings that fill the skyline remind you that you are in the city. It is an oasis of calm and beauty amid the chaos of LA.
The area hits the sweet spot of gentrification, still diverse and not completely taken over by upper middle-class white people. You can get a good cup of pour-over coffee at Fix or head down to Sunset Blvd. for a bite to eat. Within a few blocks you have upscale pub food from Mohawk Bend or amazing tacos from Guisados.
Next time I’ll bring Becki and rent a paddle boat!
I used my Leica MP and 50mm Summicron, an orange filter to help with the clouds, Tri-X at 400 and developed the film in HC-110 1+49.
