We made it to Stockton today, the first leg of our road trip to Canada. Bella, Gus and I left Hermosa Beach this morning, locking the front door, not to return for about six months.
Becki left over a month ago, flying to Vancouver to scout for her next movie called “The Mountain Between Us.” It stars Kate Winslet and Idris Elba and is a plane crash in the snow, survival, love story. A good portion of the film is going to be made on the top of a glacier in Invermere, BC. No green screen, we’ll fill in the snow later crap. This will be real “freezing your nuts off” cold, like, -30C cold. Should be interesting. I know Becki will be able to make the plan, budget and schedule and she will have the right crew, etc. Let’s hope mother nature cooperates.
Back to the road trip. I am driving north along Hwy 5, all the way to Canada. The drive will be less than three days without killing myself, it’s only 1300 miles or so. Like I said, we are in Stockton tonight, tomorrow we will only drive as far as Portland. Becki is flying down to Portland and we’ll pick her up at the airport in the morning. Then it is the home stretch to Vancouver.
I learned on my last cross country trip with the dogs not to romanticize it. It is not easy traveling with two big dogs, especially two finicky dogs. They are away from home so they don’t want to eat and I swear Gus can hold his poop for days if he feels the need. So, the easiest thing for me is to beeline it up there and get them settled in our new, temporary house in North Vancouver.
Now, There is an In-N-Out burger right down the street. It is going to be a long six months in the jungles of Vancouver after all…
