One of my favorite places to wander around in Vancouver is Granville Island, especially the large indoor market. There’s only one word that adequately describes the public market and that is “abundant.” The quantity and quality of produce are just astounding. The butcher counters have every cut of beef, pork, chicken and wild game imaginable. There are also many prepared food vendors and a couple of very fine coffee counters. And then there is Lee’s Donuts. I have a thing for good donuts, in case you are wondering, and the donuts at Lee’s are sublime. It happens to be very close to JJ Bean coffee. So, win-win, right? I regularly go to the market to shop for fresh, whole Branzino, my absolute favorite fish. There is also a small, fine French food vendor there that makes a respectable cassoulet, perfect for the cold weather in Vancouver.
On this trip, I took my newest camera, a Hasselblad XPan, with the 45mm lens, loaded with Portra 800. Here are a few from that afternoon. I think my chemicals are a little old, there were a few weird color shifts on the roll. Next time I’ll load some Portra 400 and expose at EI 1600 to see how that works.
