Road Trip and PNW Scout, Part One.

Becki and I have been wanting to spend some time in Seattle since early this year. Last week we finally set out on a road trip to visit Washington. The trip is both a vacation and a scout, getting to know the area and looking at real estate.

The weather report for Seattle for the next couple of weeks looked great, so we decided to take Hwy. 5 north. The fastest, but not the prettiest route. We’ll leave the coastal route for the trip back home. The best thing about the 5 north route is that two days later we pulled into Seattle, more precisely, North Seattle in the Fremont area. We had booked a couple of days at a Staybridge Suites hotel since our next stop was still up in the air. Maybe a different area of town or an Airbnb or something else for the rest of our scouting trip. It turns out that we picked well and decided to extend our stay here for another week at least. Fremont has a lot to offer. Walking distance to the water and some good places to eat. Plus, the hotel has a cool dog area on the roof with a pretty spectacular view of Lake Union and downtown Seattle. I have to remember to take the 4×5 up there for a picture or two before we leave.

So far, we have driven to Bainbridge Island to look around at real estate. The island town center was fantastic. Small and quaint with some nice shops, a movie theater, coffee shops and a few nice looking restaurants. One, in particular, an Italian restaurant called Bruciato was very impressive. We had a perfect lunch of an arugula salad, grilled vegetable bagna cauda, and tender pork and beef polpettine. The real estate on the water is magnificent. The east side of the island has views of Seattle and Mt. Rainier. Spectacular.

I decided to make the entire trip B&W only. My Leica MP will be loaded with Adox Scala 160. A B&W slide film that I’ve been wanting to try. I also brought my newly serviced Monochrom as well as my 4×5 camera and 6×17 back. I’ll be using Tri-X for both of these.

Here are a few more photos. They are all from the Monochrom since I won’t be processing my film until we get back home.
