Road Trip and PNW Scout, Part Two.

This post is not going to be a continuation of our Seattle trip log, but rather a description of what I’ve done with the images from the trip.

For many years now I have taken at least one camera with me when I travel. The images from the trips used to be developed, scanned, and then a few of them were shared on Facebook or Flickr. The rest of the images piled up, mostly forgotten. In 2008 I made my first photo book. I wanted to be able to look back on a photo without having to scour my hard drive to find it, and then having to look at it on a screen. Since then I have made a book from the images of every major trip that I’ve taken and a few books of local, personal projects.

Our last road trip was over a couple of weeks in October. We drove from Hermosa Beach, CA to Seattle, WA to get to know the area again and look for real estate. I had planned to gather 30 or so images from the trip and put together a small photo book, but instead, I went in a different direction.

I edited my selection down a bit and printed the images on Hahnemühle Rag Baryta paper, then typed out the notes I took when traveling. The images and notes are gathered in an archival mat portfolio. So, instead of a book of moderate quality, I have a collection of high-quality prints that can be handled individually. I think being able to handle each individual photo will be a nicer experience.

This may replace some or all of my future photo books.
